How to Fly Like You’re in 1st Class

Flying can be a horrible experience for some and why should you be forced to pay extortionate prices just for 1st Class. These tips might not get you into 1st Class but they can certainly make your economy flight seem a lot more pleasant. Sit back, relax and read on!

Sit in the Window Isle

Everyone is fascinated by the window seat, not just children. Alright maybe those who have aviophobia might not agree but for the most of us, it’s a wonderful thing looking down below at the world. That said, the window seat does other wonders for you. For starters, you are free to wriggle and move a little more in comparison to the other seats. Furthermore, you can rest your head just near the window itself, though I strongly advise that you wedge a pillow in between. The only real con of this seat is that you do run the chance of potentially annoying other passengers should you need to squeeze past for the toilet.

Wear the Right Clothing

Make sure you wear the right clothing. Wearing tight jeans, boots and a shirt can be an uncomfortable experience in any flight. Slip on shoes are a must and not only does it make it easier for you going through security should you be asked to remove your shoes but you can also slip them off when seated on the plane. Make sure you put them back on though when walking to the toilet. Im sure you know why! Joggers are great as if you havent worked it out by now, but you are going to spend most the flight sitting and having comfy joggers can really help your behind. Wear a suitable easy to remove fleece/cardigan/jumper as no doubt your body temperature will be going up and down. You really dont want to be sat there shivering, nor sweating before you arrive at your hotel. Taking a blanket can be a great additional as our body temperatures slightly drop when not moving.

Snacks

Taking the right snacks not only saves you from paying for overpriced snacks on-board but psychologically having the right snacks can really give you something to look forward to and cure your boredom. Well, it does for me anyway. That said, take the right snacks. Take a bag of sweets by all means but like all food in life, limit sugar if you can. Try mixing your snacks up with a squeezable tube of yogurt or a bag of nuts (if your airline allows it. e.g Nut allergies). Take water, don’t pay for it onboard or at the airport but take an empty bottle with you and fill it up at water fountains after checking through security. Your skin and wallet will thank you for it. Hydrate yourself as best you can while waiting for your gate number and then once onboard, limit your intake as to not be up and down every 10 minutes. Choose other snacks that are not as likely to make a mess. After all, you don’t want to stain your only comfy flight clothes.

Look After your Skin

Hydrate yourself BEFORE boarding as mentioned above and be sure to wipe your face with a good pack of facial wipes. All the air on a plane will be just recycled plus it does get very warm and stuffy quite quickly. Moisturize before boarding and tie back any long hair. Gents, treat yourselves and either shave the morning or day before flying. If you’re rocking out a beard, then trim it and shave your upper cheeks and neck. You’ll look great and feel better as your skin will be soft. Knowing your skin is looked after will keep you confident after you land and will keep you from running to your hotel room just to spruce up.

Sleep!

Easier said than done but essential! Especially if you’re on a long flight. You cant be expected to stay awake travelling between time zones. You are never going to get the best sleep of your life on a plane but you can certainly win back a few decent hours with the right gear and technique. Firstly, get yourself a pillow and I mean a pillow designed for travelling. Again, dont pay for one at the airport, get one online or on the high-street before you travel, you’ll save yourself money airports are expensive, despite all the “duty-free” signs. Next, get an eye mask. Totally underestimated and worth every penny. You’ll see what I mean when you wear one on a plane or any public form of transport for that matter. Lastly, the most important of all is to get your a good pair of noise cancellation headphones. Hearing the background noise of the plane is one thing but hearing annoying nearby conversations and hyperactive children is another. Play soft music and disappear into another world while you snooze. Sit your chair back slightly so you can poster your head back and cover yourself with a lightweight blanket. It will help take the chill off. Remember when I said your body temperature drops? Despite a plane generally being warm and stuffy, people will be playing with the so called air conditioning and it can affect your sleep.

Entertainment

There’s only so much to see out of a plane and after a while every cloud looks the same. Spice it up and bring a variety of ways to entertain yourself. Try something productive and write a blog, read a book or draft up some emails. Make use of the dead time. Otherwise watch a movie that you would have downloaded before travelling and don’t just download those movies on Netflix the night before. Do so at least a few days before your flight so you are assured that you have a few ready to be watched. Treat yourself to a magazine as a one off, probably the only thing I’d ever buy at an airport. Download some new tunes to listen to. Give yourself something to look forward to listen to and before you know it, time will fly!
